Ovis Warren Smith

Ovis Warren Smith, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pauline Morgan Smith; sons, Ovis Dean Smith, and Gary Lynn Smith; parents, John Edward Smith and Margie Mary Hinton Smith; siblings, Curtis Smith (Penelope), John Hugh Smith, Jennette Smith Moore (Raymond), and Patsy Ruth Smith Skiles. He is the loving father of Paul David Wilson (Molly), Kenneth Hugh Smith (Sharon), Bryan Keith Smith (Kim), and Tammy Sue Garrett (Daren). He is the loving father-in-law of Nancy Smith. He is the devoted grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Gerald Wayne Smith (Brenda). He is the loving brother-in-law of James Skiles. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Born February 15, 1922 in Center, Texas, Ovis was a proud US Army WWII Veteran. After the war, he returned home to farm until beginning his career in the oilfield industry for Chevron in Venice, LA. There he met his wife, Pauline Smith, and they resided for many years in Boothville until his retirement. Then they moved to Varnado, LA. where they lived for the next 15 years. A resident of Covington, LA for the past 13 years, Ovis was a member of the Northshore Church of Christ. He was also a life-time member of the American Legion. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and hunting. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Friday, July 6, 2018 beginning at 11:30 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 1:30 PM at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA. Interment at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna.
