Mateo Charles Machella, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2022 at Cumming Health and Rehab, Cumming, Georgia. He was a lifelong resident of Plaquemines Parish; He was born on October 10, 1930 in Buras, Louisiana, where he spent his early years in the nearby community experiencing a lifetime of fond memories of Olga, Louisiana, later graduating from Buras High School, then continuing his education at Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University. He delayed his college education in 1951, honorably serving in the Army 1951-1953, stationed in Germany. Mateo was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Beverly Louise Bubrig Machella; his parents, Mateo C. Machella, Sr. and Rosina Ragas Machella; his brothers, James and John and his grandson, Mat Machella. He is survived by his sons, Chuck (Terrance), Dale (Jamie), Mike (Joni); daughter, Darleen (Wayne), along with 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mateo was a devout Catholic, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He retired from Texaco Oil Company following a successful, dedicated career in Administrative Management, including many years at Getty Oil Company and Tidewater Oil Company. He volunteered for several civic and religious duties, including parish zoning and planning, OLPH finance, pastoral council and special projects manager. He was proud of his accomplished, achieving what he referred to as his legacy in life. Funeral Services were privately held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse. Burial followed in the Church cemetery. The family acknowledges Cumming Health and Rehab, Longleaf Hospice, The Suites at Algiers Point Assisted Living and Lakeside Hospice for their dedicated, compassionate care. A sincere thank you to Dad’s music therapist, Carissa, acknowledging the endless joy and comfort she provided to him in his final years.
