Mary “Marie” McGovern LeBlanc passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the age of 91. She was born and raised in New Orleans, and was a resident of Algiers for over 70 years. She is survived by her children Richard LeBlanc Jr. (Mary), Michael LeBlanc (Karen), Linda Cameron (Dennis, deceased), Brenda LeBlanc; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She graduated from John Mc Donough Girls’ High School and soon went to work for a shipping company in town. After marriage, she and her husband, Richard LeBlanc Sr, moved to the Westbank where he would be a fireman at Engine 33. They raised their 4 together until the time of his death.
Much later in life after her children were adults, Marie worked at Cafe Orleans in old Village Aurora, as an activities coordinator at The Landing at Behrman Place, as hostess at South China Restaurant, and lastly as a Financial Aid Counselor at Delgado Community College. She loved singing, dancing, old movies, Dean Martin, Elvis, song birds, and the sound of rain. Her beautiful smile, gentle voice, and selfless nature touched all who knew her.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Holy Spirit Church in Algiers, 6201 Stratford Place.
