Margaret “Maggie” Phillip Hunter passed away gently in the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her home in Waggaman, LA 70094 at the age of 75 years. She was born in New Orleans and from the age of 6 was a resident of Waggaman. She matriculated from West Jefferson High School and later completed a Business course at Soule’ College. She was the daughter of the late Victor J. Phillip and Theresa Gambino Phillip and the eldest of six children; including two sisters deceased, Pauline “Lennie” Lynch and Theresa “Teedee” Phillip. Maggie is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dewayne J. Hunter; stepchildren, Terri Hunter Smith, Carla Hunter-Rose and Steven W. Hunter; one sister, Marie Rose “Ree” Hogh, two brothers, Victor “Buddy”S. Phillip and Paul Phillip; also numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She worked a brief time with Lykes Bros. Steamship Company and then for over 20 years with several oil companies in the New Orleans area. After Maggie retired from the Petroleum Industry she and her husband acquired and managed numerous rental properties in Waggaman and surrounding areas. She loved to travel and on several occasions visited exotic places in the far-east such as Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore. She also traveled extensively in Europe; particularly Italy, her mother country and favorite, which she visited 13 times. She was an avid gardener and interior decorator and spent as much time as possible with the plants around her home and with her chickens, ducks and fish. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Our Lady of the Holy Angels Catholic Church, 6851 River Road, Waggaman, LA on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 11:45AM until 1PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church on Monday at 1PM. Interment will be in Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, Waggaman, LA.
