Margaret Marie Scramuzza Boudreau
October 7, 1922 – July 19, 2020

Margaret Marie Scramuzza Boudreau, 97, of New Orleans, LA, departed this world peacefully on July 19th, 2020. She will join her husband, Thomas Anthony Boudreau, Sr. (Tom), and eldest daughter, Lise Marie, as well as her parents, Pauline Constantine, of Donaldsonville, and Jerome Nicholas Scramuzza, of Contessa Entellina, Sicily, and younger sister, Catherine (Jeri) Bannister, on the other side. She is survived by her first son Thomas Anthony Boudreau, Jr. (Tony), his wife Eileen (Ragas) and their children Nicholas Thomas (husband to Claire Eskind) and Sarah Elizabeth, by her second son Paul Robert Boudreau, his wife Nguyễn Ngọc Minh Trang and son Anton Nguyễn Boudreau, by her youngest daughter, Anne Marie Boudreau, and by her niece and goddaughter, Susan Bannister.
Raised in New Orleans, Margaret attended St. Anthony of Padua grade school and Sacred Heart of Jesus high school, and later studied accounting before going to work for the Barge Line. Growing up through the Depression and World War II, Margaret became accustomed to a life which included community service and volunteerism. She was a USO driver and volunteer during the war. She later worked at Haspel Bros., during which time she met her husband Tom. Raising four children kept her close to home for many years, but then she later became active in the Homemakers’ Club, the Terrytown Lions Club Auxiliary, the Gretna Historical Society, and NAIM, holding many positions of leadership over the years. She also helped out at the St. Anthony Church (Gretna) and rectory, and tutored disadvantaged students under the STAIR program.
She was an avid square dancer with the Terrytown Grand Squares for many years, and later took to travelling the globe with her husband, and then with her daughter Anne. She was a voracious reader. And no recounting of her life, however succinct, would be complete without mentioning her prowess in producing the most delectable Sicilian, Creole, and Cajun home-cooking, a consequence of which was that even New Orleans’ most renowned restaurants disappointed in comparison. In addition to her square dancing and Lions Club friends, she also maintained ties with her fellow alumni from LP&L/Entergy, where her husband Tom had worked for 30 years.
Although she outlived most of her contemporaries, she will be missed by the friends and family she leaves behind. We hope and pray that her passing has brought to her indomitable spirit the eternal happiness and holiness for which she had long prayed.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA. Family visitation will be held from 11-11:30, public visitation from 11:30-1:30, and a Catholic Mass at 1:30. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery.
