Mamie Geraldine Margiotta Kass

Mamie Geraldine Margiotta Kass entered into eternal life surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at the age of 79. Mamie was the loving wife of Calvin D. Kass for nearly 60 years, beloved mother of Mark Anthony, Mary Jo Clement (Russell) and Jean Connick (James “Dutch”). She was the loving grandmother of Paris, London, Rome and Milan Kass, Amber, Logan and Abigail Clement and great-grandmother to Julian and Jerran Davis and Sofia Ramirez. Mamie is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Margiotta, Sr. and her siblings, Jake, Octave and Josephine “Mae” Volion. She is survived by her younger brother Frank, Jr., and numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was a native of Algiers and lifelong resident of Gretna. She often spoke fondly of her childhood years and loved to reminisce about her memories of Holy Name of Mary and Old Algiers. Mamie was instrumental in helping her husband Calvin in the early years build the family business, Kass Bros., Inc. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mamie was a member of the Red Hat Society, Alpha Phi Sorority, and Golden Agers of Terrytown. The Kass Family would like to extend special thanks to Total Home Health Care, Heart of Hospice and especially her niece Sandra Hornsby, and caregivers Denise Rachuba and Giselle Riley who helped to lovingly care for Mamie during her illness.
Relatives, friends, past and present employees of Kass Bros., Inc. are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 5pm to 9pm. Visitation will resume at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 6th Street in Gretna on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 8am to 10am. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
