Madeline "Maggie" Hynes Gautreaux

Gautreaux, Madeline “Maggie” Hynes, born April 23, 1940, in New York (Manhattan) died June 22, 2021. Maggie was the beloved wife and soul mate of Charles A Gautreaux Sr. for the last 58 years. Maggie was preceded in death by her Parents, John “Black Jack” Hynes and Isabel Gerrity, her siblings Kathryn Chalk, (Joe), Genevieve Kelly (Tom), Annabel Brennen (Ed), Very Rev. Msgr. John J. Hynes, William “Billy” Hynes, including Special cousin Pat Manfredo (Joe) and numerous nieces, nephews cousin, Mel Chalk (Angie), John Denis Chalk(Jerri), Thomas Kelly (Linda), Kevin Kelly (Joanne), Dennis Kelly, Kathleen Reilly (Ken), Tom Silk (Bonnie), Eddie Brennan(Jan). Also preceded in death by her in-laws, Johnny Gautreaux (Lena Rose), her sisters-in-Law and brother in-law Joyce Trepagnier (Leroy), Raymond Gautreaux (Cynthia) and Marie Guise (Lionel). She is survived by her children Cheryl Gaillot (Martin), Patricia Chaisson (Lawrence “Tee”), Maureen Chaisson (Charles “ B-Boy”), Bonnie Cannella (Greg), and Charles Gautreaux Jr. (Brandi). Grand children Kenneth Chaisson (Mary), Lawrence “L.J.” (Christine), Martin Gaillot III (Meghan), Mallory Gaillot, Philip Robichaux IV (Stephanie), Hannah Chaisson, Charles “Chaise” Chaisson III, Amanda Cannella (Friend Parker), Kyle Cannella (Friend Hannah), Avery and Aubrey Gautreaux, Baylie Antunes, Noah Abadie. Great Grandchildren, Landon and Lailah, Tudo, Baylee, Lawrence III “LoLo”, Parker Rose Gaillot. Maggie spent 50 years as a CCD and RCIA educator for OLPS children and adults. She loved kids and spent 27 years in Westwego’s Recreation Dept., 20 of which as girls director. She spent 6 years at John Ehret High School and 20 years at Higgins High School in Food Services. Maggie retired from Jefferson Parish School Board in October 2004. Maggie was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and after Hurricane Katrina she began weekly visits with Pastoral care bringing the Blessed Sacrament to the infirmed at West Jefferson Medical Center. She so dearly loved the Blessed Sacrament and continued for 13 years.
She attended Holy Cross College for advanced Theology to extend her knowledge of her Catholic Faith.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation to her Doctors, Dr. Frank Cullichia, Dr. Michele Loch, Dr. Aaron Mammoser and their nursing staff, Katie and Brooke. A special thanks to UMCNOLA Cancer Center nurses, Vanessa, Theresa, Rebecca, Regina, Renee, Melissa, Celeste, Australia, Mindy and all the aides who were special to her care. We also would like to thank Compassus Hospice especially Gayle, Angel, and Daniella for their compassion and care. Our hearts are also grateful for Jenna NPR with Omni. You were her special angel. She so dearly love you all.
A special Prayer service will be held in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 146 Fourth St. Westwego, La on Sunday evening June 27, 2021 at 6:30 pm. Visitation will be on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with Mass to follow. She will be interred in the Gates of Heaven mausoleum in Westwego. In lieu of flowers, donations to OLPS for Masses in memory of Ms Maggie will be appreciated.
