Lynn Charles "Grits" Ramagos, Sr. passed away peacefully on April 23, 2018 at the age of 74 years. Son of the late Isaac P. Ramagos and Mary Bartolo Ramagos. Beloved husband of the late Geraldine “Gerri” Ledet Ramagos. Father of Lynn C. Ramagos Jr. and Michelle Ramagos Carlo. Grandfather of Trevor Ramagos. Step-father of Arlene Rapp, Darlene Gibson, Rickie Rapp Sr., Terri Foret, Michael Rapp, Kevin Rapp and the late Randy Rapp. Brother of Delores R. Babin, Glenn Rae R. Woods, and Gail R. Dandry. Also survived by many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren and other loving relatives and friends.
Grits worked for many years and retired as an operator with the Louisiana D.O.T.D. he was a talented and well-known musician. Grits began practicing and was self-taught on the piano at the age of 11 and later on the organ. It was around the age of thirteen when he used to sit in with the house band at the "Gay Paris" in Harvey. Grits played for twenty years with Johnny Thomassie, Eddie Parrino, Richard Pitre, Ronnie Galle, Ricky Hanks, and Carroll Freeman; who formed the group called, "The Deacons." The band played at the 300 Club, The Joy Lounge, Club 18, The Hawaiian Room, The Tahiti Club, The Raven in Boutte, and The Welcome Inn in Raceland. "The Deacons" also won 1st place in the Battle of the Bands at the VFW Hall on Monroe Street in Gretna. A three piece band named, "Country Fire" which included Cliff Fonseca, and Stan Cantrelle, was the last band that Grits played with. At St. Joachim Catholic Church in Marrero, Grits brought his musical talents to a new audience where he played for Masses and was active in the choir. He was inducted into the Westbank Musician’s Hall of Fame in 2004. (Excerpt used from

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 146 4th Street, Westwego, LA on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 10AM until 12 Noon. A Memorial Mass will follow at the Church. Memorial Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
