Louis "Bucky" Earl Mitchell

May 8, 1948 — April 12, 2021

Louis “Bucky” Earl Mitchell; 72, a native of Boothville, LA and lifelong resident of Plaquemines Parish passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 12, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Earl Mitchell and Cora Lee Sharp. He is survived by his loving wife, Janis Wood Mitchell, who was his closest supporter and biggest agitator. Bucky was a dedicated father to Maygan Mitchell(Shelby), Mason Mitchell, Lori Marinovich(Dominic), Chad Horton(Bridgette), and Keri Fischtziur(Jon). His greatest joy was entertaining his nine grandchildren; Leland, Lacey, Blake, Avery, Hailey, Caden, Harrison, Max, and Ford. He adored and doted on them constantly. It came naturally as he was always young at heart.

Bucky was a graduate of the Delta Heritage Academy Class of 1968. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he earned two Vietnam Service Medals. He spent years working as a golf course superintendent and local barber. Bucky also served as a PPSO deputy. He was popular for issuing speeding tickets along the Port Sulphur route. In recent years he returned to his roots as a barber and spent Mondays cooking with the “lunch crew”. He cherished those lunches with his closest friends.

Bucky was a natural craftsman and a lover of life itself. His obnoxious laughter was infectious and we long to hear that laugh one more time. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Exceleration Church in Belle Chasse, La on Sunday, April 18th. Visitation will be from 2-4pm and services will start at 4pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Exceleration Church.
