Lois H Chong

Lois Hano Chong, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the age of 84. She succumbed to Covid related Pneumonia and her battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
She was born in Algiers, Louisiana on June 27, 1937 and attended Martin Behrman High School. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Irene Dufrene Hano and her father Harold M. Hano; her son Mitch Breaux; her husband Egnio “Joe” Chong, Sr.; her brother Jerry “Smokey” Hano, Sr. and sister Shirley Ruiz (late husband Walter “Tiger”); brother-in-law Ramon Enrique Chong, and sister-in-law Nina Chong Andino of Diriamba, Nicaragua.
She is survived by her sister, Rosemary H. Centineo (late husband Vincent); sisters-in-law Jackie Hano, Ines Chong Cordero and Auxiliadora Chong Gutierrez of Diriamba, Nicaragua; four children: Nedra Chong Tacke, Egnio J. Chong, Jr. (wife Shelly), Tara DiPascal (husband David), and Kyra Reed (husband Robert); along with seven grandchildren, grandson Elliot Chong, granddaughter Megan Witalec (husband Jonathan), granddaughter Emily Chong, grandson Bryce Tacke, granddaughter Sydney Williams, granddaughter Isabella Reed, and grandson Gabriel Reed; and many nieces and nephews.
She loved to dance, visit the casino, and spend time at the beauty parlor with all of her friends, but most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends especially when they could all gather around the table for a meal or a game of cards. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Dominic Church in New Orleans. She will be remembered by everyone whose life she touched. She never met a stranger.
She will be missed dearly by all that knew her. Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 11 AM until 1 PM. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Mothe Funeral Home on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 1PM followed by interment in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Ave., Gretna, LA.
