May 2, 1932 — March 15, 2022

Lester Rawlin Cambre, Sr. entered into eternal rest on March 15, 2022 at the age of 89. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline “Jackie” Lauricella Cambre. Father of Belinda C. Constant (Ronnie), Wendy C. Bush (Rick), and Lester R. Cambre, Jr. (April). He was the grandfather of Troy (Jackie), Brian, Travis, Lester III (Lara), Blair (Ashley), Majken (Dustin), Brennan (Maegan), Devyn, Cambre (Joshua) and Kailyn (Tim). Great-grandfather of Austin, Dylan, Lester IV, Jaycie, Landyn, Morgan, Malaya, Laiken, Kennedy, Jacque, Brennan Konrad, Cale, Noah, Cheryl, Emma, Kaiden, Bryson, Avery, and one expectant great-grandchild. He is also survived by many loving relatives and friends. Lester was a lifelong resident and businessman in Gretna, LA, and an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy. After serving in the Korean War, he spent his early career as owner and operator of the Clover Club in Gretna. He subsequently worked for many years at First National Bank, and retired from American General Life Insurance Company. Lester also enjoyed a vibrant personal life dedicating much of his time to serving numerous organizations. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he spent many years as an usher, and was the proud recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medallion for his faithful service to the church. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1905, an active volunteer with St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School, and a longtime member of the Krewes of Grela and Choctaw Carnival Organizations. Those who knew Lester would agree that he had an infectious zest for life. He was always the life of the party, his trademarks being famous $2 bills and his love of Sarsaparilla. He had an abiding affection for spending time with family and his grandkids, as well as traveling, fishing, and living ‘the camp life.’ He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed.
