Leo "Buck" J. Guthrie

Leo “Buck” J. Guthrie, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2022. He was a native of Gretna, Louisiana, and resident of Gonzales LA since 2017. He was the son of the late Eliza Marie Verdin Guthrie and James Joseph Guthrie and born on June 28, 1928. He is survived by his son Harold G. Guthrie (Debbie) and grandchildren Matthew (Rayne), and Katie Guthrie, and great-grandchildren Ellis and Merritt Guthrie, and many nieces and nephews. He was married to Joyce Pauline Hynes Guthrie until her death in 1988. Brother of the late Lena Adams, Ida Cox, Whitney Guthrie, Lydia Scully, Edna Stentz, and Albert Guthrie, and Marguerite Boyd Guthrie.
Following graduation from Gretna High School in the class of 1946, Buck enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served in the Construction Battalion (Sea Bees). Honorably discharged in 1949. He attended Tulane University and studied engineering. Buck worked at Shell Oil from 1957 to 1972. He then went on to work for Barnett and Casparian for approximately 28 years. Buck traveled the world as a construction consultant and he stopped working at the age of 83.
Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 1PM in the parlor of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, in Harvey. Visitation will begin at 12PM. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Ave., in Gretna, LA.
