Juanita Bonnie Brandon Matherne

March 6, 1926 — November 24, 2021

Juanita Bonnie Brandon Matherne was born on March 6, 1926, in the small town of Desloge, Missouri. In 1933, Bonnie’s father took a new job with Freeport Sulphur Company in Port Sulphur, La. Bonnie was only seven years old when she took a train with her mother and younger sister to Port Sulphur to meet. Bonnie attended the local schools and graduated from Port Sulphur High School. After high school, Bonnie studied for a year at University of Southwestern Louisiana. She returned to Port Sulphur after college and worked in the pay-roll office at the Freeport Sulphur Company’s mines at Grand Ecaille. This is where she met her husband, Hector.
Bonnie and Hector were married on January 9, 1949, in Port Sulphur. The two of them moved to New Orleans in the 1950’s and raised three children. Bonnie was very dedicated to her family, and she took great pride in everyone’s accomplishments.
Juanita Bonnie Brandon Matherne is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Hector H. Matherne Sr., her daughter, Brenda Matherne Klibert (Allen); her parents, Frank Aaron Brandon and Bonnie Lee Rentfro Brandon; and her grandchild, Tressie E Klibert.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Hector “Bert” H Matherne Jr (Lana) and Brandon B Matherne (Diana); her sister, JoAnn Brandon Schoenberger (Late Barney); her grandchildren, Dale A Klibert Sr (Penny), Hector “Matt” H Matherne III, Shane M Matherne (Brynn), Sheena M Chlebowski (Brian), Carmann M. Hoover (Dillon), Marguerite E Matherne (David), and Marshall B Matherne. Bonnie is also survived by her great grandchildren, Dale A Klibert Jr, Stella Cohravey, Roman Chlebowski, and Ember Matherne; as well as her niece, Bonnie Jo S. Thomas (Bobby) and many Rentfro family relatives from Missouri.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, December 4, 2021, with visitation beginning at 11am, and a service at 1pm located at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, La 70058. Interment will immediately follow the service in Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna.
