Joseph Teddy Mayfield passed away peacefully on December 2, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Beloved husband of the late Emelda “Sis” Pizani Mayfield. Loving friend of Josephine Smith. Father of Terry Mayfield (Kathy) and Lisa Lauland (Robbie Jr.). Grandfather of Jessica, Tara, Francis, Robbie III and Katherine. Great-grandfather of Paige, Aris, Rebecca, Whitney, Elijah, Kayden and Karsen. Brother of Ella Kraemer, the late Murphy Mayfield, Gercie Boudreaux, Mildred Pizani, Edmond Mayfield Jr. and Edward Mayfield. Son of the late Edmond Mayfield Sr. and Augustine Chiasson Mayfield. Also survived by other loving family members and friends.
Teddy served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He later retired from Brown & Root as a supervisor. He was a member of William D. White Lodge No. 408 F & AM, the New Orleans Consistory, New Orleans Shriners and the Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a member of the Lafitte Yacht Club and truly loved his community of Lafitte, serving as Councilman and bringing citizens together in civic support. Teddy spearheaded many projects including the City Hall Christmas Tree lighting, the Lafitte Nature Trail and was recognized for his hard work and endless energy including Lafitte’s Man of the Decade and the Lafitte American Legion Post 344 M.C. “Mike” Gehr Blue Cap Award. He touched the lives of so many. While his passing is sad, his life and lasting legacy will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
