John Francis Matthews

John Francis Matthews passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Beloved husband of Suzanne Hoolahan Matthews for 57 years. Father of Timothy Matthews (Laurie), Jean M. Llovet, Brendan Matthews (Robin), and Linda M. Wilson (Michael). Grandfather of Torie Youngblood, Jonathan Llovet, Caroline Rosemary Matthews, Madeline Matthews, Nicholas Matthews, Peter Wilson, Kelly Wilson, George Wilson, and Declan Matthews. Son of the late Harold “Frank” Matthews and Elizabeth Nolan Matthews. Brother of Kathleen O’Sullivan and the late Patricia Matthews (late Carl Ware) and James Matthews. Age 80 years, a native of Bronx, NY, and resident of Metairie, LA, and Algiers, LA for the past 20 years. John graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY in 1958. He received his Masters from New York Maritime Academy and spent his career in the United States Flag Maritime Industry in New York and New Orleans, LA. He was a member of the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council 1724. He will be remembered by his family for his exceptional commitment and generosity to church, family and friends.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 6201 Stratford Pl., Algiers, LA on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 12 PM.
