John P Laughlin

John P Laughlin passed away on October 23, 2021, at the age of 72. He was born in New Orleans on January 20, 1949, to William R Laughlin and Catherine Christian.
John is survived by his brother William Robert Laughlin Jr (Betty), his loving wife of eighteen years, Ann Patterson Laughlin; his children, John P Laughlin Jr (Angelique), Terri L McCracken (Mark), Jon P Birdsong, and Daniel Vandervlucht (Lenora); his grandchildren, Gage Stahl, Sophia Laughlin, Mia Laughlin, Makiah McCracken, Landon Vandervlucht Maya Birdsong, Isabel Birdsong, Jolie Birdsong, Ella Hilliker, Karlee Hilliker, Marcy McCracken, Annie Birdsong, Matt Birdsong, and Mila Birdsong. John is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
John is preceded in death by his parents William R Laughlin and Catherine Christian; his former spouse Helen Sue Taix; and his sister-in-law, Betty Dupis Laughlin.
John was a United States Navy Vet. He was known everywhere as “Big John” of Krazy Ray’s Fireworks. He worked for the city of Gretna for 35 years. During that time, he was the Public Works Director, and a volunteer coach for the parks department. John was a simple man; he loved his family and his fireworks. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren. John’ s family was most important to him. He was many things to many people, but he was always loyal to his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, October 30, 2021, beginning at 1pm at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette, Algiers, La. A visitation will begin at 11am. Interment will immediately follow in McDonoghville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital on behalf the family.
