Janice Pierce Newby

Janice Pierce Newby, 83 years young, born May 24, 1938, left this earth Thursday, November 11, 2021, to meet Jesus face to face. Wife of the late Jerry L. Newby. Daughter of the late Horace F. Pierce and the late Nellie Nelson Pierce. A proud mother of 2 daughters, Ann Albert Taravella (Marc) and Mary Beth Albert Lassere (David). A doting grandmother of 4, Michael Taravella, Daniel Taravella, Jamie Keller, and David (D.J.) Lassere, Jr.; and GG to 3, Evelyn Taravella, Jaxon Keller, and Colton Keller. She was sister to Thomas N. Pierce.
Janice was born in Raceland, Louisiana and at the age of 3, her family moved to Harvey, Louisiana where she lived for most of her adult life. She has been a resident of Algiers, Louisiana for the last 15 years.
Janice joined the Order of the Eastern Star with her late husband Jerry. She was a member of the William D. White Lodge, Gretna, Louisiana and St. John Lodge, Marrero, Louisiana.
Janice loved her family, her church family, her Eastern Star family, and her friends. She loved to go dancing, visiting family and friends, and traveling when she was able.
Family and friends are invited to come and celebrate Janice Thursday, November 18th at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, Louisiana. Visitation will be held 6:00-9:00pm. And Friday, November 19th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 6201 Stratford, Algiers, Louisiana. Visitation will be held 9:30-11:00am. A funeral mass will begin at 11:00am. Interment will follow the mass at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Ave, Gretna, Louisiana.
