James “Jimmy” Autry transitioned from being the body of Christ on Earth to his glorified body on September 28, 2021 at the age of 70. He departed at the “top of his game” after an unexpected heart attack late on Tuesday evening. Jimmy loved telling stories of his childhood in Ashland, Mississippi. He was a gifted speaker and would transport you to his hometown with accounts of hunting with his Father, William Joseph Autry, gardening with his mother, Bardee Ford Autry, or playing with his brother, Sherrill Ford Autry. His story-telling skills were surpassed only by his passionate teachings of scripture. Sharing the truth of the Gospel of Jesus in word and deed was who Jimmy was. Jimmy met the love of his life, Frances Upton Autry, while serving as youth pastor in Byram, MS. Frances was with him every step of the way in his 50 years as pastor in New Orleans, LA (FBC Westwego and Cornerstone Christian Center). Together, they had three children and thirteen grandchildren: Russell “Rusty” Autry (spouse Taffie and children Rachel, Nathan and Hannah), Kippi Fortunato (spouse Jason and children Amelia, Sophia, Riley and Annabelle) and Kimberly Root (spouse Will and children Savannah, Micayla, Easton, Case, Lillian and Thad). Jimmy often thanked Frances for the gift of family. They were his greatest delight. Jimmy was a city father who influenced the very spiritual structure of our city. He was a pastor to pastors both locally and globally. He was a father and a brother to us all. Pastor Jimmy’s life will be honored in a celebration of life, Saturday, October 2, 2021 at White Dove Fellowship, 3600 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey, LA. Visiting hours are from 11-1PM with the service at 1PM. There will be a private burial at 3PM. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
