On Saturday July 17, 2021, Hillary Joseph (Chuck) Simoneaux -- loving husband of 63 years and father of three children -- passed away at the age of 88. He was born in New Orleans on Feb. 24, 1933. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 15 in 1948, served in the Korean War and was wounded by mortar fire. He remained in the Marines and reserves for 20 years. He was also involved in The Marine Corps League and participated for many years in its community outreach programs. He was beloved by all and well known for the grand stories he would tell for all who had the good fortune to hear them – from his military experiences to the civilian jobs and adventures that took him to aircraft test sites in the California desert, grain silos in Iowa’s cornfields, and offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. He led a full life and will never be forgotten by those who had the pleasure and opportunity to meet him. He was preceded in death by his father Louis Raphael Simoneaux and mother Marie Boudreaux Simoneaux as well as his oldest daughter Martha Marie May and his eight siblings: Therese Leblanc, Ulysses Simoneaux, Henry Simoneaux, Lloyd Simoneaux, Louis Joseph Simoneaux, Adeline Hebert, Hilda Muszar and Geraldine Hadskey. He is survived by his adored wife of 63 years, Alta Johnson Simoneaux; his daughter Sherene Dahlman (Marc) and son Brent; two grandchildren, Colby and Parker Simoneaux; and multiple nieces and nephews. A private service will be held July 31, 2021, at Grace Baptist Church of Marrero. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ochsner Foundation, Dogtopia Foundation for support dogs for veterans, and Oschner neurology.
