Hester Lee Broussard, 89, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at his home in Boothville, Louisiana. Hester was born September 7, 1928 to Arthur and Alice Broussard in Grand Chenier, Louisiana; one of 8 children. Hester served in the Navy from 1946-1948 aboard a destroyer in Bikini Atoll where he served on Operation Crossroads, the first military unit to test nuclear weapons in the Marshall Islands. He met his beautiful wife, Mercedes Buras in 1948 and they married one year later in Grand Chenier, Louisiana. After leaving the Navy they resided in Venice, Louisiana. Hester continued to work on the water for many years on a dredge boat and as a commercial fisherman. Hester is survived by his wife, Mercedes; daughter, Melissa (Clifford) Scarabin; sons, Kirk Broussard and Kevin Broussard; grandchildren, Clifford Scarabin, Jr. (Lacrecia), Ashley Scarabin Lincoln (Joshua), Keith Broussard, Jr. (Kayla); 5 Great Grandchildren; Hester preceded in death by his parents; 7 siblings ; son, Keith Broussard, Sr. (Glenda). A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 8:45 AM for family and 9:00 AM for the public.
