Herbert Ignatius Weyer

September 22, 1930 — October 14, 2017

Herbert Ignatius Weyer passed away on October 14, 2017 at the age of 87 years. Son of the late Ethel Clark Weyer and Ignatius Harry Weyer. Brother of the late Harry R. Weyer Sr. (Sara). Beloved uncle of Susan M. Weyer M.D., Harry R. Weyer Jr. (Denise) and Karl F. Weyer (Paula). Great-uncle of Jennifer A. Weyer, Emily E. Weyer, Sara E. Weyer Kelley (Jason) and Gabrielle M. Weyer. Great-great-uncle of Harper L. Kelley and Everly M. Kelley.

Mr. Weyer was a graduate of Tulane and Loyola Universities. He taught chemistry for nearly 50 years in New Orleans, first at Martin Behrman High School and later at Benjamin Franklin High School. Mr. Weyer was the recipient of numerous teaching awards for chemistry and was greatly beloved and respected by his students.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.

The Weyer family wishes to thank the staffs of Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center and Notre Dame Hospice for their loving care of Herbert. In lieu of flowers, Masses in his memory are preferred.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 9 AM to 11 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment McDonogh Cemetery in Gretna.
