Helen Rook Galloway

Helen Rook Galloway went to her Heavenly home on August 12, 2018 at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her children Nann, Ben (Kathy), Paul (Debbie), Ted (Constance), and Bart (Jenny); her grandchildren William (Tara), Jesse, James, Philip, Jonathan, Grant, Allie, Hannah, Brett and Matthew; her brother Walter Rook Jr., and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben Galloway, Sr., sisters Annie Rook and Gwen Gibson, her parents Annie and Walter Rook Sr., and grandson Ben David Galloway.
Helen was born in Meridian, Mississippi but grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. She lived in Gretna, Louisiana for the last fifty-two years. Helen was the church secretary at Gretna United Methodist Church for more than thirty years, serving multiple pastors. She was actively involved in the United Methodist Women at all levels in the Conference. Helen was also instrumental in coordinating, planning, cooking, and serving lunch to the Westbank Rotary Club each Tuesday for almost forty years. She was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by that organization.
Helen touched the lives of many people during her time here. Her devotion to the church, her love for neighbors and friends, and her dedication to her family made her the wonderful woman that others recognize as a role model and blessing in their own lives. Whether as “Miss Helen” to her church family or “Neenie” to her grandchildren, she was truly a selfless, caring representative of Christ.
While her passing is sorrowful for all who cared for her, the legacy of love she left behind will be celebrated by ever-widening ripples as we share that love with others.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation at Gretna United Methodist Church, 1309 Whitney Avenue in Gretna on Friday, August 17, 2018 from
5 to 6:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in a Celebration of her Life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gretna United Methodist Church or to your preferred charity in her name.
