Gussie Mae “Marie” Jones, daughter of the late James Davidson and Ethel McDaniel Davidson was born January 17, 1936 in Lincolnton, North Carolina. She graduated from Newbold High School, Lincolnton, NC in 1954 and gathered work experience as a nurse’s assistant, Mass General, in Boston, MA; as a salesperson at Maison Blanche; as a secretary at Second Nazarene Baptist Church; and as a Orleans Parish Poll Commissioner. Gussie professed her faith in the Lord Jesus at an earlier age. She joined Word of Truth Fellowship where she was a dedicated member.
Gussie was bright and funny. She was full of quips and advice. For example, when asked about her being blessed and highly favored, she often joked “Yes indeed, e’rebody ain’t able baby!”
Known by family and friends as being straightforward and “telling it like it is”. She was a strong and dedicated woman, often demonstrating her love by walking many miles to provide sustenance for her family, and to help anyone in need. Gussie was the epitome of a caretaker and offered her love and support to her family, friends, and the community. She could be found happily serving as a Voting Poll Commissioner Volunteer during elections, sitting on her porch talking to her neighbors, and waving to passersby.
Gussie quietly departed this life Thursday, October 07, 2021 at her home. She will be missed.
