Gregory Alan Towle

April 12, 1947 — December 3, 2018

Gregory Alan Towle passed away at home on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the age of 71. Greg was born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts on April 12, 1947. He and his three sisters were raised in Chelmsford by his parents, Francis X. Towle and Margaret (Lantagne) Towle. Greg, or Greggie, as he was known by his sisters, loved playing golf, walking and endless summers spent on Cape Cod with his family. He graduated high school from Keith Academy in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1965, then attended Maryknoll College in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, graduating in 1969. As fate would have it, Greg decided to take a summer trip to Mexico when he finished college. There, he somehow found himself in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, a city nestled in the Tepozteco Mountains south of Mexico City. He met and fell in love with Rebeca Bertha (Davalos) Towle. They were married in 1970 and remained in Cuernavaca while starting their family. In 1977, Greg, Rebeca, and their three children left Mexico, lived for a short time in the Boston area, then ultimately decided to make their home and raise their children in the New Orleans area, settling in Terrytown. Greg became a real estate agent and built a solid reputation as an honest and hard-working agent.
Life was good to Greg. He and Rebeca raised their children and eventually they were blessed with five granddaughters and became Abuelo and Abuela. Abuelo loved nothing more than spending time with those girls. Each of his granddaughters was fortunate enough to have him bring them to and from school daily, take them toy shopping, to the grocery, to the donut shop, for walks to the farm and on vacations to the beach and Disney World. To say he was devoted to his family is an understatement. On a normal day, he would bring at least one granddaughter to school, go play golf, go to work, go home for lunch and a siesta, pick up the granddaughter, and return to work in the evening. Greg always played golf. In his prime, he played at least 9 holes of golf per weekday and at least 18 on the weekends, nearly always walking and carrying his bag. He was very proud of his game and hit holes-in-one on four different occasions, all witnessed and properly documented. Greg also loved the beach and spent time every summer on Cape Cod and every spring and fall in Florida, always with his family. He was also an avid sports fan and loved his New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and the Saints. But most of all, he loved his family and they loved him, coming together to surround him with love and care in his final days.
Greg was preceded in death by, and is now reunited with, his beloved parents, Frank (“Buck”) and Margaret, his aunt, Vera Lantagne, and his brother-in-law, Peter Rogers. He is survived by, and will live on in the hearts of: his wife of forty-eight years, Rebeca; his children, Frank X. Towle, Deborah DeGruy (Jacques), and Gregory Alan “Rocko” Towle; his grandchildren, Gabriela Towle, Alicia Towle, Isabelle DeGruy, Natalie DeGruy and Brigitte DeGruy; a great-grandchild, Rayne Martin; his sisters, Deborah (Mrs. Edward) O’Brien of Plymouth, MA, Donna (Mrs. Peter) Rogers of Lowell, MA, and Bonita (Mrs. Ted) Flanagan of Chelmsford, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
