Gordon Edwin Mansfield, a longtime resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2017 at the age of 87. Gordon was born on Tuesday, February 11, 1930 in Cartersville, Georgia. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 60 years; his son, John Mansfield and his wife Stephanie; his daughter, Susan Pertuit and her husband Steve; his grandson, Matthew Pertuit, and sister Janice Beck of Cartersville, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his father, Martin Smith Mansfield; his mother, Louise Martin Mansfield; his sister, Patricia Mansfield, and brother John Mansfield. Gordon graduated with honors from Georgia Tech with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation he served in the United States Army Chemical Corp from 1952 to 1954. Gordon then worked for Shell Oil Company for approximately 40 years, retiring in the position of Chief Petroleum Engineer. He was Baptist but regularly attended St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Algiers, Louisiana. Burial will be held at a future date at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cartersville, Georgia.
