Cwo-4 George Allan Sutherland U.S.C.G. Ret

CWO-4 George Allan Sutherland, U.S.C.G. (Ret.) passed away peacefully on May 15, 2018 at the age of 70. Beloved husband of 50 years to Victoria Durand Sutherland. Father of Eric Sutherland (Amanda), Trent Sutherland (Melissa) and CDR Ian Sutherland, U.S.N. (Genevieve). Son of Corine Longmire Sutherland Harding (Jack) and the late Wayne Allan Sutherland. Brother of Susan Helmke (Bob) and Kimberly O’Grady (Pat). Grandfather of Leah, Roan, Jude, Elizabeth, Gabriel, Imogene, Adelaide and Angus. Also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.

George retired from the Coast Guard after 23 years of service in personnel and legal department. He later worked with Adams and Reese, LLP. He was a state soccer referee and officiated games on all levels from youth to high school to adult leagues. He also volunteered at the shooting range at the Honey Island Swamp, using some of his military training to coach others in marksmanship and safety. Throughout his years, he touched the lives of so many. While his passing is sorrowful, his life and legacy will be celebrated.
