George John Burkart

George J. “Pops” Burkart, age 79, passed away on March 25, 2022. Loving husband of 58 years to Norma Burkart. Father of the late Gerald Paul Burkart “Jerry B” (Dana), Janet Naumman (Russell), Randall Burkart (Tammy), Joel Burkart (Christy), Andra Walker (William). Grandfather of Logan (Sandra), Brandon (Caitlin), Justin (Liz), Rani (Connor), Sarah (Richard), Gary (Daja), Kyle, Marcus, Jena, Madison, Caleb, Jeremy, Alyssa, Jack (Ash), Ty, Angelina, and Damian. Great-grandfather of Chloe, Ariella, Luna, Reyah, Elliot, Zoila, Ezra, Rylan, and Melody. George was born on July, 27, 1942 in New Orleans to the late John Burkart and the late Dorothy Schwartz Burkart. Brother of the late Sheila Adele Burkart. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. George mentored and coached at Avondale Playground for 50 plus years. He was a volunteer at Avondale Fire Department, served in the US Navy, and retired from Associated Terminals as a longshoreman. Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 329 S. Jamie Blvd., in Avondale on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11AM. Visitation will begin at 9AM. Interment will follow immediately at Restlawn Park in Avondale, LA.
