Frederick Joseph “Van” Vanlangendonck, Jr. passed away on Friday, September, 10, 2021 at the age of 87. He was a native of Alexandria, LA and a lifelong resident of Algiers, LA. Beloved and devoted husband to the late Marie Miceli Vanlangendonck. Son of the late Frederick Joseph Vanlangendonck, Sr. and Cornelia Ney Maddox Vanlangendonck. Father of Annette V. Wilson (John) and Frederick “Freddie” J. Vanlangendonck, III (Lana). Grandfather of John (Abigail) and Lauren Wilson and Calli and Wyatt Vanlangendonck. Brother of Robert August Vanlangendonck, Richard Maddox Vanlangendonck, Sr. (Cindy) and the late Thomas Lee Vanlangendonck, Sr. (Jill). Also, survived by many nieces and nephews.
Fred “Van” graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, LA. Van served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was self-employed at Van Electric Company for over 45 years and just recently retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post 218, Knights of Columbus, Plaquemines Council on Aging, and a past member of the Krewe of Choctaw for 20 years.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his family. He was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law. Van had an outstanding personality and infectious smile. He lived for his grandkids giving them his constant and undivided attention, as well as, providing them with the very best. He loved going to casinos and playing cards with family and friends.
Van was cared for in his home until his death by his daughter, son-in-law, and caregiver. The family would like to give a special thanks to Arlene Stansberry for her compassion and care for “Mr. Van.” Also, our gratitude to Lakeside Hospice for their kind and excellent service.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 11AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 3101 Eton St., in Algiers. Visitation will begin at 9AM. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Ave., in Gretna. Please visit
