Fabio Fidel Fernandez, age 90, peacefully departed this life and went home to the Lord on Monday, December 31, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Maria Erie Fernandez for 62 years, who pre-deceased him in 2015. Fabio was the son of Fidel and Rosa Fernandez and was born in Bayamo, Cuba on October 22, 1928. But when the communist took control of Cuba, Fabio was forced to escape his homeland with his wife and two daughters, Marianela F. Perricone and Teresita F. Loetzerich, both of whom survive him. He had five grandchildren, Dr. Robert S. Perricone, Dr. Adam J. Perricone, Emile James Loetzerich IV, Madalyn L. Johnson, and Emma Loetzerich. He also had one great grandson, Ethan C. Perricone. Fabio had two siblings, Fernando Fernandez of Madrid, Spain, who pre-deceased him and one surviving sister, Ruby Fernandez DeCastro. After escaping Cuba, Fabio started his life over in New Orleans as a machinist and was very talented mechanically. He was a dedicated father and husband and enjoyed life to the fullest, until his mind became occluded with Alzheimer’s Disease, and which eventually overtook him. If anyone who knew Fabio needed something fixed, he was the man to go to. He would never say no to anyone. Regular hand tools were surgical instruments in Fabio’s hands. Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Rd., Terrytown, Louisiana on Saturday, January 5. 2019. Visitation will commence at 9:00 am to 11:00 am and a Requiem Mass will follow. Interment will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.
