Eugene Joseph Tierney Sr.

Eugene “Gene” Tierney Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday December 14, 2020 at the age of 97. Son of the late Henry A. and Mary Lillian Camus Tierney Sr. Beloved husband of the late Edna Hynes by first marriage and Sylvia Breaux Cox by second. Father of Theresa Short (late William Short III) and the late Eugene Tierney Jr. (Victoria). Grandfather of Victoria Tierney Winter, Christine Short Gates (Robert), Andrew Tierney (Stacy), William “Daniel” Short (Patricia). Great grandfather of Alyssa Tierney Boudreaux, Madison Tierney, Brynn Winter, Marissa Gates, Amber Tierney Crowley, Eliza and Sophia Short, and the late Matthew Tierney. Also survived by three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brothers: Henry Jr, John, George, James, Edward Tierney and his sister, Anna Mae Tierney Dollinger Pete. He was a Veteran of World War II in the Army Air Corps. Where he was detailed as the Tail Gunner in the B- 52 bomber, achieving the rank of Buck Sgt. before receiving an honorable discharge. He worked at Todd Johnson shipyard in his early years. Then employed with the City of New Orleans as a master carpenter. He worked at F. Edward Hebert and Jo Ellen Smith hospitals. Also worked several years at the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office in the carpenter shop teaching the inmates a valuable trade of woodworking. After Hurricane Katrina, he finally retired. He was a devote Roman Catholic and an avid sports enthusiast that coached baseball. He was a Tulane University and New Orleans Saints fan. “Tulane Go Green Wave”. His favorite past time and hobby was sitting on any water’s edge with a fishing pole in his hand on a beautiful sunny day. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the visitation service on Monday December 21, 2020 at 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.
