Eugene “Monk” Raymond Hebert entered into the Peace of Eternal Life on Monday, September 26, 2022 at age of 71. He was born on May 6, 1951 in Algiers, LA. Left to treasure his memories are his wife, Gale Whelan Hebert, his daughter, Kayla Jean Hebert and his grandson, Brayden Michael Hebert, his sisters, Sr. Marjorie Hebert, MSC and Peggy Hebert Price (Ted) and many nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by the Whelan, Helmstetter and Gegenheimer families Monk is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Estelle Hebert, siblings Joe (Mary), Herb, Tommy (Cheryl) and Catherine “Bah” and many cousins.
He was a graduate of Behrman High School in 1969 and served in the United States Army. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 41 years of service. Monk was a life-long resident of the Westbank (Algiers). He was a dedicated fan of the Saints, LSU and Astros. His favorite pastimes included golf, playing pool, watching football and baseball and spending time at J & K with his friends. He always started his morning with coffee and the Times-Picayune. He kept up with all local and national news and loved doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. He was a proud dad of Kayla and a proud paw-paw of Brayden. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs Bella and Buddy. As a man of few words, he was well liked, and his many friends enjoyed his company. He will truly be missed in the Algiers community.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette Street, Algiers, LA on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at McDonoghville Cemetery, Gretna, LA. A celebration of life will follow at J & K. In lieu of flowers masses may be offered or donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
