Ellie "Nana" Prejean Hotard

June 7, 1922 — May 15, 2021

Ellie “Nana” Prejean Hotard passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 in her home in Marrero, LA. She was born in Leroy, LA in June of 1922. She was a nurse in Abbeville, LA and Galveston, TX. Ellie loved to entertain and would often host Cajun prepared meals for family and friends. She loved to dance and would do so in her kitchen with anyone who would join her. She always strived to look her best, and was a beautiful woman at every stage in her life. Ellie was preceded in death by her sister Enite Prejean Doucet and preceded in death by her brother Ivy Prejean. Ellie was preceded in death by her first husband, Preston Gaspard. She is survived by her son, Preston Gaspard. Preston and his late wife, Carolyn “June” Caffey Gaspard had three children, Jeannine Gaspard Volpe, Rachael Gaspard Fink and Monique “Niki” Gaspard Desormeaux. Ellie was preceded in death by her second husband, R.L. Hotard, and is survived by her two daughters, Ellen and Jean. Ellen Hotard Savoie is married to Byron Savoie and has three children, Len Savoie, Kim Savoie-Kraemer and Damond Savoie. Jean Hotard-Mouton is married to Michael Mouton. They have one child, Jeremy Hotard. Ellie has seven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Notre Dame Hospice for their excellent care, especially Sheila, Yvonne and Frances.
A heart-felt abundance of thanks to Father Mike Kettenring for his friendship and Catholic ministry to Ellie. Ellie will be buried alongside her sister Enite Prejean Doucet in Abbeville, LA. There will be a small virtual memorial for the family at a later date.
