Elizabeth Arden Cahill

October 21, 1931 — July 15, 2021

Elizabeth Arden Cox Cahill passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A native of New Orleans, Arden was born in Algiers and lived on the Westbank her entire life. A graduate of Behrman High School, Northwestern State College, and Loyola University, she began teaching for the Orleans Public School Board in 1952. She began her career at Laurel-McDonough #1 and Allan School where she spent three years teaching children with speech disorders. The next three years Mrs. Cahill taught speech and drama at Fortier High School. During this period, she also taught homebound students and children with disabilities after school hours, including students who were deaf and students with cerebral palsy. In 1958, Arden Cox married Harry L. Cahill, Jr. While he furthered his education, Mrs. Cahill taught Speech Development and also worked with the hearing disabled at Florida State University before returning home to raise their family. Once back home, Mrs. Cahill taught for two years at Behrman High School, then was the Disciplinarian/Assistant to the Principal at Edna Karr Junior High School until the birth of her third child in 1970. After working as a St. Julian Eymard Elementary School volunteer for two years, Mr. Cahill encouraged his wife to start her own school. Soon thereafter the idea was planted, and their dream took shape and became a reality.
Arden Cahill Academy was founded in 1968 by Arden and Harry Cahill as a school dedicated to the interest of early childhood education. She sought to create a wholesome environment for learning where each child could grow and mature intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and morally to the best of each child's ability. Mrs. Cahill had a love for people that could not be matched, knowing that God made everyone special. She always strove to let people know that they were loved, important, and talented. She spent her life helping people find their talents, cultivate their individuality, and achieve their goals. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 62 years Harry Lloyd Cahill, Jr.; her children Harry Lloyd "Chip" Cahill III (Judith Windhorst Cahill), Jack Gerard Cahill (Tina Mosley Cahill), Mary Kevin Cahill (Joey Collen Wideman), Kelly Ann Cahill, and Christopher Nolan Cahill (Angelle Chedotal Cahill); her grandchildren Dr. Harry Lloyd Cahill IV (Dr. Maggie Joyner Cahill), Anna Marie Cahill, Luke John Cahill, Maj. Whitney Mithun O'Connell (James Scott O'Connell), Richard James Mithun, Jr. (Jeni McDougald Mithun), Nicholas Cahill Mithun, Letha Michelle Wideman, Kelsey Corrin Cahill Wideman, Alona Joy Wideman, Mercy Ann Lindell, Nolan Ambrose Cahill, Samson Elliot Cahill, Kaycie Ann Cahill, and Jack Michael Cahill; and her great-grandchildren Harry Lloyd "Quinn" Cahill V, Lincoln James O’Connell, Scotti Juliet Eilis O’Connell, Mia Arden Mithun, Forest Drake Mithun, Liam Reco Tingle, and Maverick Bear McGuire.
