Ej Raley Iii

July 7, 1962 — March 21, 2021

Elliott Joseph Raley, III, better known to everyone as “EJ,” entered into eternal rest on March 21, 2021 surrounded by his family at the age of 58. He was a loving and devoted husband to Jan Barlow Raley for 32 years, the father of Erica Raley Jones, Josh Raley, and the late EJ Raley, IV, the grandfather of Kaleb Raley, Remington Raley, Cason Jones and the late Raley Jones. He was the son of the late Elliott Raley, Jr. and Carlie Rae Morel Raley, brother of Debbie Raley Prendergast (Brian), son-in-law of Carol Barlow and the late Pete Barlow, brother-in-law of Ken Barlow, Beth Barlow, and Bob Barlow, uncle of Travis Prendergast (Rebecca), Kathleen Prendergast, and Jillian Barlow Hicks (Kerry), and great-uncle of Evan Prendergast and Carter Hicks. Born in Shreveport, LA, EJ was a lifelong resident of Terrytown. He attended Christ the King Catholic School, which was the beginning of a three generation tradition. He went on to graduate from Archbishop Shaw High School in 1980 and then attended Nicholl’s State University. He worked for ODECO for a few years until starting his career with Allstate in 1983. He dedicated 37 years as an agent and owner of EJ Raley III Insurance Agency, Inc., in Harvey, LA. He was a longtime member of the Christ the King Dad’s Club. He spent many years coaching his children and grandchildren football, softball, and baseball at Terrytown Playground. EJ enjoyed life to the fullest. A true renaissance man, he enjoyed playing softball, the thrills of snow skiing, parasailing, skydiving, scuba diving, and spear fishing, and became Rookie of the Year while playing rugby. His biggest joy, however, was sharing his love of hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. EJ’s kindness and generosity was far-reaching. He loved to cook and entertain for all of his friends, and he was famous for his beef tenderloin, barbecue shrimp, and “Fish EJ”. The overwhelming love and support shown to him by his friends over these last few days are a testament to the man and friend EJ was. To quote a friend, you “can’t get enough of E!”
Special thanks to his nurse, Tyra, with Compassus Hospice for her exceptional care and support.
