Edward Joseph "E.J." Delahoussaye

January 21, 1928 — January 24, 2018

Edward Joseph “E.J.” Delahoussaye, age 90, was peacefully taken home by our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. He was born on January 21, 1928 in Youngsville, Louisiana. Son of the late Naud and Ollite Delahoussaye, raised by his late uncle, Edier and aunt, Rose Moore with his two cousins, Lucille Moore Boutte and the late Gloria D. Moore. Brother of Florence Delahoussaye Hebert and Charlene Delahoussaye Blanchette. E.J. met Marjorie, a beautiful curly-haired farm girl in the town of Abbeville. He drove a sugarcane truck for the family. Marjorie often volunteered to fetch water out of a well so she could wave to him when he passed her house. E.J. also worked on his uncle’s farm by taking care of thoroughbred horses. He learned to train and ride them and soon became a talented jockey. He and Marjorie enjoyed many horse races. His first cousin, the famous Kentucky Derby winner Eddie Delahoussaye, helped train horses with E.J. on his uncle’s farm. E.J. volunteered to go into the Army but proposed to Marjorie before enlisting (a very smart move!). She became the love of his life. In 1948, E.J. moved his family to Port Sulphur, Louisiana and got a job with Freeport-Sulphur Company as a lab technician. Marjorie and E.J. loved living in the small, friendly little mining town. It became the perfect place to raise two small children. They made many new friends. E.J. was a talented baseball player and his love of many sports started here. He also loved to golf, fish and hunt, but most of all, he loved being with his family. He and Marjorie loved taking their two children to the zoo in New Orleans. They also loved bowling, bike riding and of course, trips to the New Orleans Fairgrounds. In 1968, Freeport transferred him to Belle Chasse, Louisiana and he retired after 35 years of dedicated service.
Beloved husband of 71 years to Marjorie Broussard Delahoussaye. Loving father of JoAnn Delahoussaye McClelland (Mike) and Danny Joseph Delahoussaye (Susan). Grandfather of Kim McClelland St. Marie (Nick), Ryan Delahoussaye (Jamie), Matthew Delahoussaye (Barbara), Joy Delahoussaye Glass (Dwayne) and Heather Delahoussaye. Great-grandfather of Michael St. Marie, Maegan St. Marie, Lisa Delahoussaye, Drew Delahoussaye, Gauge Delahoussaye, Jordan Delahoussaye, Liam Glass and Luke Glass.
Edward will be sadly missed by all who knew him. We thank him for all the wonderful, funny and special memories he gave to all of us. Relatives and friends of the family, also employees of Freeport-Sulphur Company are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 8968 Highway 23 in Belle Chasse on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 12 Noon.
