Douglas James Hernandez Sr.

Douglas James Hernandez, Sr. passed away at the age of 89 on Sunday, December 6, 2020. He was born in New Orleans, the oldest child of the late Eusebe Hernandez and Nora Picou Hernandez of Harvey, LA. Douglas was married for 69 years to Betty Marie Allemand and together they had three sons: Douglas James Hernandez, Jr. (Julie), the late Gene Louis Hernandez, and Rickey Joseph Hernandez (Barbara). He is survived by three grandchildren: Brandi H. Provencher (Terry), Brian D. Hernandez (Brandi), and Joshua J. Hernandez (Jordan) and three great-grandchildren: Ava Hernandez, Wyatt Hernandez, and newborn Madeline Hernandez. Survivors also include his two sisters Margaret Lutz, Ethel Winterstein, and his brother Ronald Hernandez and a host of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Earl P. Hernandez, Sr. Douglas was a self-employed carpenter for most of his life, but worked for many years as a carpenter at Bollinger Shipyard in Lockport before retiring. He was a longtime resident of Harahan and moved to Marrero in 2004. His family will miss his quiet demeanor and his willingness to help anyone who needed it. Thank you to the staff and all the ladies at Tranquil Living in Marrero who took care of him. We’d also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Wynhoven Nursing Home for making his last days peaceful so that he could enjoy his time with his beloved wife, Betty.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 11 AM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Thibodaux, LA. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until mass time. In lieu of flower, please make memorial donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Fund.
