Diane Simon Lauscha

d. April 21, 2021

Diane Simon Lauscha entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at the age of 77. She fought very bravely in her battle with cancer of the unknown primary (CUP). She was born December 6, 1943, to Purple Heart Staff Sgt Ulyess Joseph Simon and mother, Florence Lucille Esteve Simon. She cherished her forty-three years of loving marriage and life with her late husband, Dennis Richard Lauscha of Bronx, New York. She is survived by her son, Dennis Patrick Lauscha, Sr (Jennifer Malcolm Lauscha), and daughter, Shelly Lauscha Stafford (Jerry Wayne Stafford, Jr); and her four beloved grandchildren, Dennis “Patrick” Lauscha, Jr, William Parker Stafford, Evelyn “Evy” Anne Lauscha, and John Broden Stafford. She was daughter in law to the late John Joseph Lauscha and Rosetta Cunningham Lauscha, and sister-in-law to the late John Joseph Lauscha, Jr. She was godmother and cousin to many and treasured family gatherings and relationships.
Diane was a proud parishioner of Visitation of Our Lady Church for over 40 years. During those years, she could often be found in the stands of a gym or field supporting her children’s love of sports and competition. She supported the VOL Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary #7226 as a member and formal secretary. Her work provided an outlet for her dedication, volunteer service, and stewardship for special needs children, child advocacy, and elder respect. In addition to her volunteer work, Diane formally worked and retired as secretary from Certex (Industrial Supply). She considered her co-workers an extension of her family and was grateful for the time they shared together.
Diane would often say that she lived a very blessed life. She loved socializing, shopping, all things New Orleans, and of course, the Saints. Shortly after her husband’s passing, she moved and became a member of St. Francis Xavier parish where she quickly formed new friendships in Old Metairie. In addition to her family, faith, and new friendships, she relied heavily on her special St. Joseph High School (‘60) sisterhood. The sisterhood of friends (for over 60 years) offered her tremendous love and fellowship. She looked forward to their social events each month, traveling with them, luncheons, and prayer group meetings.
During her brave fight this past year, she focused on the message of “have hope always” regardless of the circumstance or outcome. In her final days she expressed her greatest desire was to “hug and kiss the Lord as He deserves all the love and glory.” With incredible appreciation, we honor all those who took part in her care. We extend a very special thank you to her loving personal caregiver, Maria, a true angel.
