Demetrios N. Spetsiotis

December 24, 1931 — July 22, 2019

Demetrios N. Spetsiotis peacefully passed away in his sleep at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, July 22, 2019 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of the late Ioanna Arvanitis Spetsiotis. Son of the late Nicholas D. Spetsiotis and Despina Frangou Spetsiotis. He is survived by his son, Nicholas Spetsiotis; his daughter, Despina Spetsiotis; his granddaughter, Nicole Williams; his sister, Maria Psillou; his sister-in-law, Maria Sotiriou, his brother-in-law, Kostas Arvanitis; his cousins, Irene Mixakis and Despina Kountoudis; his former son-in-law, George T. Williams and the late Despina Stai. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Greece and the United States. He was born in Oinousses Island, Greece and called New Orleans home since 1974. He was a retired Merchant Marine Engineer with 30 years of service and he served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War assisting the US Forces. He also worked for Gulf Marine Industrial Supplies as a Ship Chandler after his retirement from the Merchant Marine. He had a special love for all animals. He will be missed by all of his family and friends. He will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd., New Orleans on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 9AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral on Thursday at 11AM. Interment will be in Lafayette Cemetery #1 (Across from Commander’s Palace Restaurant), New Orleans, LA. Repost meal will follow the interment at the Cathedral. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may offer condolences at mothefunerals.com.
