Daniel Burk Sikes passed away on November 17, 2021. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 25, 1938, and in 6th grade moved to New Orleans.
Dan graduated from John McDonogh Senior High School and Louisiana State University. His career spanned 33 years with the Louisiana State Employment Agency. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Jane Dicken. Best friends, they were married for nearly 60 years.
Dan and Jane traveled around the world and made friends throughout the countries they visited. Family, faith, and music were among Dan’s passions. He tickled the keys on the piano and played clarinet in the LSU Tiger Marching Band. He dedicated his love to his family and friends and had a zest for living life! Dan demonstrated his life-long faith as a Christian through the many ways he was involved in church over the years. However, Dan’s most unforgettable attributes have to be his gleaming smile, sense of humor, and his storytelling. “Have you heard the one about…” are words we will all miss hearing Dan share.
Dan is predeceased by his parents Daniel O’Connell Sikes and Edith Brock Sikes; and his brother Walter Leslie Sikes.
Dan is survived by his wife, Jane; his 2 daughters Dawn S. Liphart of Jacksonville, Florida; Joy S. McGraw (David) of Natchitoches, Louisiana; and his son Danny Ray Sikes (Briana) of Destrehan, Louisiana. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who call him “GranDan.”
