Clara Turner Steele passed away peacefully, surrounded by all seven children, on January 6, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Beloved wife of the late Melvin E. Steele. Loving mother of F. Michael Steele (Susan), Curtis Paul Steele (Melinda), Diane Steele Bouvier (the late Earl), Elizabeth Sue Steele Tyrrell (the late Patrick), Debra Steele Eder (the late Stephen), Virginia Steele Langlois (Joseph) and Billie Steele Billiot (Alvin), Donald Steele, Thomas Steele (Liz) and Joyce Steele. Grandmother of Dwayne (Shannon), Crystal (Khristopher), Patrick III (Amy), Adrienne, Lori (Jason), Dawn, Eric (Danielle), Todd (Jennifer), Amy (Barry Sr.), Jason, Rosalie (Nicholas), Gavin (Kelly) and Traci (Jason), the late Christina and Nicholas. Great-grandmother of Alana, Lily, Megan, Madison, Colin, Brady, Brea, Carinne, Eric, Alyson, Ainsley, Mackenzie, Chloe, Alexander, Cameron, Adaline, Brittany, Jude Jr., Stephen, Barry Jr., Brianna, Pete and Evan. Great-great-grandmother of Jahri and Kyri. Sister of Mary Inda Turner Herndon (the late William) and the late Geraldine Marie Turner Lorenzo (the late Ray), Harold Lewis Turner (the late Maggie) and Justin Caswell Turner. Daughter of the late Alma Clair Ethridge Turner and Samuel David Turner. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
Clara was a native of Leakesville, MS and a longtime resident of the Westbank and of Wynhoven Apartments for the past 14 years. She worked for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Bill Coci, was the manager of Fasullo’s Supermarket Produce and Bakery departments and served as President of Wynhoven’s Resident’s Association.
