Christopher Frederick Melling

February 19, 1971 — October 7, 2021

Christopher Frederick Melling was born to William and Carolyn Melling in Marrero, Louisiana, on February 19, 1971. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith, instilling within him a strong Christian faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a devoted member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church, in Metairie, Louisiana. Chris graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School in 1989 and from Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering where he was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. With 25 years of experience, he was regarded as a respected authority, subject matter expert, trusted advisor, mentor, and role model to all that he encountered. During his career, Chris developed a passion for collegiate intern recruitment, and he served as an on-campus recruiter for five years. In this capacity, Chris was able to influence, inspire, and motivate many future engineers. He was a dedicated employee of the Phillips 66-Alliance Refinery in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, for 13 years, where he served faithfully as the mechanical integrity engineering superintendent. Chris was blessed with a loving family. He married his best friend and sassy soulmate, Stacey Carter, on March 17, 2001. Their union was blessed with three children: Abigail, Madeline, and Christopher Melling. The “Melling 5” shared countless memories and moments of love and laughter. He taught them priceless lessons of perseverance, advocacy, and humility and above all else to “work hard so you can play harder.” Chris was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, wine and beer connoisseur, a cheerful giver with a passion for LSU athletics, shopping, beach vacations, and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. A source of unity and love for all those he encountered, Chris was fondly known as “Chris Charming.” He will be remembered for his smile, playful antics, and ability to dance like nobody’s watching. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones and had the unique ability to create a special relationship with everyone he met. Chris leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Stacey; children, Abigail, Madeline, and Christopher Melling; parents, William and Carolyn Melling; sister, Connie Melling Charleston; godchildren, Corey and Catherine Charleston and Dylan Peterson; and a host of treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Juanita Graf and Antone Frederick Leiding Sr.; paternal grandparents, Gladys Ramsey and Rudolph Christopher Melling; uncle Antone Frederick Leiding Jr.; aunt Marilyn Ann Melling; and Elizabeth Therese Flynn Carter (Mee-Maw). Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 315 Ridgelake Dr., Metairie, LA 70001, on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11am.
