Brent James Petit

September 22, 1958 — December 27, 2017

Brent James Petit entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the age of 59. A native and resident of Luling, Louisiana, he is survived by his wife Franziska Lendle Petit and his sons Jacques Anton Petit and Rene Alceste Petit. Son of Stanley Bernard Petit and the late Theresa Friloux Petit. Brother to Scott James Petit (Barbara); and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Mr. Petit was an active Unionist and grew into a true Labor Leader immediately after beginning his career as a Shop Steward at Cytec and OCAW Local 4-447, which later merged with PACE and is now the United Steelworkers (USW). Brent worked tirelessly to represent the interests of laborers throughout the South in his roles as Chairman of the Workers Committee and a Vice-President of Local 447; President of Local 447; Executive Board member of the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO, Thibodeaux Central Labor Council, and Louisiana State AFL-CIO. He also served as the Legislative Representative for the PACE/USW District Council. He retired from Cornerstone after 33 years, and in April of 2016, became a Staff Representative for the United Steelworkers. His peers elected Mr. Petit to serve as a Steward for USW District 13 and Executive Board Member of the Staff Representatives Union (SRU). Active in the River Parish community, Brent worked with the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area as a Loan Executive to solicit support and contributions from local companies to support United Way programs. He also proudly served as Chairman of the Board and was a founding member of the River Parish Transit Authority where he worked to bring public transportation to our River Parish communities. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling, Louisiana with Visitation in church beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until time of the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in St. Charles Cemetery Mausoleum.
