Betty Ann Bonvillain Cosse

Betty Ann Bonvillain Cossé, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of November 16, 2018 at the age of 82. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Joseph Cossé, Jr.; her parents, Mabel Marie Bergeron Bonvillain and Hayes Louis Bonvillain, Sr.; her step-mother, Hazel Bonvillain. her brother Hayes Louis Bonvillain, Jr.; her in-laws, George Joseph Cossé Sr. and Evelyn Rouselle Cossé; her sisters-in-law, Patsy Pichon Cossé, Deanna LeBlanc Cossé, and Aileen Cossé Edgecombe; and her half- brothers, James Bonvillain, Clark Bonvillain and Gene Bonvillain. Her mother died when Betty was an infant, so she was raised by her grandparents, the late Ernest and Mary Bonvillain. She was extremely close to her two aunts and two uncles that helped raise her, the late Maurice and Mary LeBeouf and the late Berwick and Dorothy Breaux. Betty is the cherished mother of James David Cossé (Pamela Brady Cossé), John Eric Cossé (Rosa Castillo Cossé), and Mary Evelyn Cossé Rougeau (Thomas Gregory Rougeau). She is the devoted grandmother of Corrine Sadie Frelich (Michael Joseph Frelich) and Jaime Anne Cossé. She is the loving great grandmother of Royce Michael Frelich. She is also survived by her three cousins, Kay Salassi, Dale Gabriel and Jane Arnette; her brothers-in-law, Leroy Cossé, René Cossé, Gilbert Cossé (Priscilla Jacomine Cossé), and Stanley Edgecombe; her half-siblings, Allen Bonvillain, Mae Morgan and Marion Bonvillain; other family and friends. She raised her children in Port Sulphur before moving to Belle Chasse to be near them. She became active at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse, LA, where she taught catechism and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She also served the Sacrament of Communion at the River Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until her illness. For many years, Betty was very active in her religion at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur, LA where she taught catechism and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She also served on the St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Council and as the church’s Religion Coordinator for over thirty years. In 1987, she received the prestigious Order of St. Louis Award Medal from the Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans for her dedicated service as a Catholic lay minister. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM all at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8968 Hwy 23, Belle Chasse, LA. Interment at OLPH Cemetery, Belle Chasse, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur, LA or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse, LA. Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA. in charge of arrangements.
