Bettie H. Shanks Guillot Martin passed away peacefully on the morning of June 13, 2018 after a long illness. She was a native of Phenix City, Alabama and a resident of Algiers, Louisiana since 1954. Bettie was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend. Being an only child, she had a close relationship with her Harden and Shanks first cousins and their families.
Mrs. Martin was a retired medical secretary and the beloved wife of the late Fred H. Martin. Bettie was the beloved daughter of the late E. Hubert Shanks and Elizabeth E.H. Shanks. Bettie was mother of E. Darlene Guillot, Gregory A. Guillot, John C. Guillot, III, and Deborah A. Guillot Kodora. She was stepmother of Melanie M. Edwards and Thomas W. Martin. Her grandchildren are Christine A. and Candice E. Guillot, Heather E. VonBodungeon and Hailey A. Kodora. She was also grandmother to her late husband’s only grandchildren; Brandy E. Pigeon and Benjamin L. Edwards. Bettie’s great-grandchildren are Riley and Fulton Pigeon and Daisy Harper. Relatives, family friends, members of Westbank Golden Agers, AARP Chapter 3903, Employees of LSU Health Neuroscience Center of Excellence, Red Wing Shoes and former employees of JoEllen Smith Memorial Hospital are invited to attend the Visitation on Friday evening, June15, 2018 from 5pm until 8pm at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette St in Old Algiers.
