Barbara Ann Galiano Cantrelle

November 16, 1937 — December 29, 2020

Barbara Ann Galiano Cantrelle, loving and loved wife of Kenneth Louis Cantrelle, died December 29, 2020 at the age of 83 at her residence in Westwego surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Mabel Goodman Galiano and Marth Galiano, on November 16, 1937. She spent her entire life in Westwego, except for two years with Ken in the Army and three years in Destrehan, Louisiana. Barbara is survived by Ken and daughters, Kris Bordelon (Scott), Nancy Trosclair and Amy Daigle (Jim); grandchildren, Aaron Bordelon, Adam Trosclair (Bridgette), Heather Mire (Gary), and Alex Bordelon (Megan); great grandchildren, Emma Bordelon, Alex Barbara Bordelon, Sadie Trosclair, Zoey Bordelon, Mason Mire, Beau Bordelon, and Max Mire. Barbara is pre-deceased by a brother, Robert (Mabel). She is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Cindy, Marcia, Patty, Robert, Gilbert, and Gloria. She and Ken were married in a simple ceremony at Wednesday morning Mass on November 23, 1955, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor’s historic “Little Jesuits” Church in Westwego. Ken was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957. He was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Barbara joined him, and two years later she and Ken returned home with their first child, daughter, Kris. Later they would be blessed with two more daughters, Nancy and Amy. Barbara was a wonderful mother and homemaker for the girls and Ken, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a fine seamstress and, loving to sew, tailored many items of clothing for herself and other family members, including the children’s dolls. When her children and grandchildren were in Our Lady of Prompt Succor School she volunteered in the school, and afterwards volunteered for and served on Committees and Boards for the OLPS Parish. She and Ken were awarded the Order of St. Louis Medal in 2006. After her daughters were grown, she worked for a total of 18 years as a Medical Transcriptionist for Avenue C Clinic and Westbank Primary Care in Westwego. She and some of her lady friends, devoted to the blessed mother, prayed the rosary every Tuesday for over 23 years, then socialized by playing their weekly Domino game. Barbara and Ken travelled extensively in the United States, visiting 49 states, Washington D.C., Canada, and Mexico, some several times usually towing a travel trailer behind their vehicle. Barbara and Ken were happily married for over 65 years. Barbara’s delightful smile and laughter will be missed by everyone who knew her.
