Arthur Harry Thayer Sr.

Arthur Harry Thayer, Sr., born July 22, 1947, passed away surrounded by family at his home on Thursday August 13, 2020, at the age of 73. He is a wonderful, loving husband to Mary Alena Durand Thayer for 53 years, and father of six sons. He is preceded in death by his parents: Annie Juanita Fletcher Thayer and George Thayer, his sister, Grace Bright, and cousin, James Fletcher (husband of Janet Fletcher). He is the loving husband of Mary Alena Durand Thayer and has six sons: Arthur Thayer Jr. (and wife, Tammy), Cletus Thayer (and wife, Stephanie), Jason Thayer (and wife, Debbie), Brandon Thayer, Sr. (and wife, Michelle), Todd Thayer Sr. (and wife, Maria), Nick Thayer (and wife, Jessica). He is the grandfather of: Brittany Visin (and husband, Scott), Brandon Swann (and wife, Sydney), Julian Thayer (and wife, Natalie), Alex Thayer (and wife, Brittany), Emile Thayer (and wife, Kristen), Colin Thayer (and wife, Chelsea), Nick Thayer (and Tierza), Liam Thayer, Emily Thayer, Corban Thayer, Brooke Thayer, Brandon Thayer, Jr., Alena Thayer, India Thayer, Ava Thayer, Todd Thayer Jr. and William Thayer. He is the great-grandfather of: Luke Visin, Beau Visin, Heath Thayer, Caspian Thayer, Leo Swann, Ashton Thayer and Moira Thayer. He is brother-in-law to: Victoria Sutherland, and Ophelia and Terry Collins. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was an employee of the West Jefferson Medical Center for 42 years in the Radiology Department. His life was devoted to spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He had many hobbies including fishing, gardening, trips with the family, stained glass, and fixing anything the children or grandchildren brought him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, August 20, 2020 beginning at 10:30 AM followed by a Memorial Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM all at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 3600 Claire Avenue, Gretna, LA. Private Interment at a later date. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, everyone will be required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA in charge of arrangements.
