Antonia “Nica” “Mami” Fernandez Balbuena passed away peacefully on Monday January 11, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born in Manati, Cuba to Manuel Fernandez and Dolores Gomez Fernandez, where she also met her beloved husband Victor “Papi” J. Balbuena (deceased March 2018). She was a resident of Marrero, LA for the past 50 years. She was the oldest of 10 children. Mami was a talented seamstress and blessed by an extremely green thumb. She is the devoted mother of Elany Balbuena-Rome (David E. Rome) and Victor M. Balbuena (Lisa Smith Balbuena) and loving “Aba” to grandchildren Jonathan and Victoria Balbuena. She is survived by three sisters and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Mami will be remembered by all her loved ones and friends. We wish to convey a special thank you to Mami’s compassionate and loving Notre Dame Hospice team, in particular, Dr. Hector Cabrera, Kim Lacombe RN, and Milagros Calix CNA. We do not have enough words of gratitude for Rosa Elena Lemus who was not only a caregiver but became a part of our family. All of them were truly a Godsend, caring for both Mami and Papi and we are eternally grateful. We ask for Masses to be said in her honor. Due to the COVID Pandemic, attendees are limited to 100 persons. Each attendee must wear a face mask for the duration of the visitation and Mass. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, Louisiana on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 9AM until 11AM.
