Alvin "Captain Al" Gumpert

July 15, 1957 — June 9, 2021

Alvin Gumpert (Captain Al), born July 15, 1957, a lifelong New Orleans area resident, passed peacefully into heaven June 9, 2021 in the presence and comfort of his two sons.
He was known as a man who took great pride in his family, and was well known on the Mississippi River for his many years as a tugboat captain. Alvin was a dedicated father and grandfather, a former elder at Community Bible Chapel, and a generous man who loved to bring joy, laughter, and good seafood to everyone he met.
Alvin is preceded by his father Harold Charles Gumpert Jr, his mother Betty Chico Gumpert, and his sister Betty Robinson.
He is survived by his sons Alvin Gumpert Jr (Laura), Ashton Gumpert (Jacquelyn); sisters Pam Flanagan, Aline Wegmann, and Shannon Griffith; grandchildren Manny, AJ, Corrin, Noel, Madison, Preston, Abbie, Violet, Maria, Sky, and Wyatt.
Alvin will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
