Althea Louise Gruntz Heitmeier

Althea Louise “Gruntz” Heitmeier passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 6:00am, at the age of 93. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Born on September 26, 1928, she lived in Algiers for over 90 years, where she met her husband of 60 years, Lloyd Ray “Spider” Heitmeier, raised a family, and started a beauty salon business, which she ran from the 1940’s all the way to the early 2000’s. A practicing Catholic and parishioner at Holy Name of Mary Church, she was awarded the “Order of the St. Louis Award” along with her husband for their dedication to the parish.
She is survived by her loving children: Ray Heitmeier, Sandy Thompson (Charlie), Kay Mouton (Richard), Ricky Heitmeier (Tammy), and Jill Vidrine (Jody). Grandmother of eleven grandchildren: Casey (Jeffrey), Frankie (Sara), Ashley, Kellen, Joshua (Kaitlin), Kelsey (Daniel), Rikki Lynn (Kyle), Jacob, Steven, Jenna, and Roxanne. Great grandmother (GiGi) to Rhett, Abigail, Drake, Jeremy, Evelyn, Adelaide, and Jett.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Mary Church, 400 Verret St. Algiers, LA on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 11am. The visitation will begin at 9:00am. Interment will immediately follow Mass at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna, La.
