Alma Esperanza Galeano Hurlston

January 7, 1964 — June 18, 2020

Alma Esperanza (Lulu) Galeano-Hurlston, age 56 of Marrero, Louisiana
entered rest June 18th, 2020 at her home filled with the love and
support of her family. She battled cancer for many years, but
complications of brain cancer were more than her body could handle.
She was born on January 7th, 1964 to Aparicio Galeano and Triva Ebanks
in Savannah Bight, Bay Islands of Honduras. As a young woman Alma was the mother figure for her younger brothers and other family members that looked up to her. She instilled
family values and independence leading by example. Her hobbies were
swimming, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. Alma married Basil O. Hurlston on June 7th, 1991 and started their life together with children Billy, Darla, Hanson followed by Elizabeth to complete their happy union. Alma worked as a Domestic Engineer and CNA for many years. Her work ethic, compassion, along with a genuine caring heart earned the respect and love of all the families she touched and served.
She loved to read and in her spare time be of service to others no
matter the cost or time required to complete the task at hand.
Alma is survived by her husband Basil, children Billy, Darla, Hanson,
Elizabeth, two stepdaughters Candace and Charmaine, her eight
grandchildren Jovani, Mia, Bella, Payton, Tyler, Cody, Layla and
namesake Esperanza. Her siblings Victor, Rodolfo, Mario, Ricardo,
Oscar, Julio, Arturo and father Aparicio (Picho).
She was preceded in death by her mother Triva Ebanks, her brothers
Luis Galeano, Steve Bush, and Arnulfo Galeano.
Visitation will be held Thursday June 25th, 2020
from 6-8pm at Mothe Funeral Home in Marrero, Louisiana.
Memorial service will be Friday June 26, 2020
11- 1pm at Mothe Funeral Home with Pastor Derek Howell Officiating
Interment 2:15pm at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna, Louisana.
Pallbearers will be Billy Smith, Hanson Smith, Jay Hurlston, Daniel
Villalobos, Derby Hurlston, Joshua Gonzalez and Jose Corzantes.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic visitors are required to practice social distancing and wear masks for protection.
